Obituary

Hartland, VT – Janice A. Rowell, 80, passed away early Saturday morning, October 25, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, VT. She was born April 19, 1934 in Windsor, VT the daughter of Kenneth E. and Mae E. (Burke) Hunt.

Janice grew up and attended school in Windsor, VT. She graduated from Windsor High School, class of 1952. After graduation she worked for a time in Keene, NH. On July 27, 1956 she married William H. Rowell in Windsor, VT. They made their home at the family farm in Hartland until 1962 when they built their home on Mace Hill Road where they have lived ever since.

Janice worked as a secretary for the railroad for over thirty-five years; first for the Canadian National Railroad, then for the Boston and Maine Railroad and finally for Central Vermont Railroad.

Janice had many hobbies and interests. She was a devoted community member and loved helping people in Hartland. She volunteered countless hours at the polls during election season, working the community Roast Beef, Turkey and Venison Dinners. She enjoyed snowmobiling with her husband, raising her Irish Setter puppies and skiing. One of her favorite, life long hobbies was horse back riding. Janice started at a very early age and rode right up through her seventies making her quite an accomplished equestrian.

She was a member of the Hartland Riding Club.

Most of all Janice loved spending time at their camp in the North East Kingdom.

Mr. Rowell died January 13, 2014. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Roger Hunt and John Hunt as well as a sister Sandy Jenks.

She is survived by son, Thomas "Fruity" Rowell and his partner, Joy Michalenoick of Hartland, VT, her sister, Jackie Connolly of Windsor, VT and her brother, Harrison "Peter" Hunt of Hartland, VT as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, October 29th, from 6-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 30th, at 1PM at the Hartland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route 10, and Enfield, NH 03748 or to the Mt. Ascutney Hospice Program, 289 County Road, Windsor, VT 05089.
