Janet Bomhower

Wilder, VT – Janet Bomhower, 94, died Sunday October 28th at home in Wilder surrounded by her family.

She was born January 21, 1918 in Hanover, NH the oldest daughter of Ernest and Hazel (Marshall) Fitzgerald. Janet graduated from Hanover High School in 1936. After graduation she worked at Kilburn Interiors in Hanover. She was married to Harold "Red" Bomhower October 16, 1943 in Fort Benning, GA before he left for his service in World War II. When he returned from the military, they moved into the house he built in Wilder where they raised five children and spent the rest of their lives. Janet worked with Red at Bomhower's Oil, doing the bookkeeping, until they began their family.

Janet was an active member of St. Anthony's Church including as a member of the choir for many years as well as a member of the Catholic Daughters. She was also a past member of the Wilder Women's Club and the Wilder PTA.

She enjoyed bird watching and gardening. She also enjoyed the outdoors, snowmobiling at their camp on Tigertown Road in Norwich and fishing with her husband both locally and in Canada, Janet was often known to catch the larger fish. After Red's retirement in the mid 197O's the couple purchased a motor home and spent much time traveling with the Family Motor Coach Association as well as traveling to Florida in the Winters. Most of all Janet loved time with her family, frequently holding large family gatherings at their home in Wilder.

Janet was predeceased by her husband in 2005 as well as three brothers Marshall, Robert and William Fitzgerald and a son in law Jon Helie.

She is survived by her children Jean Rowzee and her husband Walt of Manchester, NH; Judy Peduzzi of North Hartland, Vt, Susan Helie of Charlestown, NH, Sandy Bomhower and friend Christopher Dickson of Post Mills, VT and Charlie Bomhower of White River Jct., VT; grandchildren Colleen Sangster, Kristin Thivierge, Raven Horne and Jason Rowzee; great-grandchildren Maverick Thivierge and Austin and Hannah Sangster; sisters Hazel Hickson, Norwich, VT, June Hodges of Bedford, MA, Marion Blodgett of Lyme, NH and Ann Henderson of Hanover, NH as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers for their love and dedication.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Thursday November 1st from 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday November 2nd at St. Anthony's Church at 2PM PM with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
