Obituary

Jane Grant (Mathison) Wieler, a resident of Shrewsbury MA, passed away suddenly in the loving company of her children on August 7, 2010.

Jane was born in 1929 in Wheeling WVa to John Joseph and Mildred McNally Mathison. The youngest of five Mathison children, Jane was predeceased by her siblings: Nancy Hennen (Wheeling WVa), John Mathison (Mount Lebanon, PA), Patricia Dvonch (New York, NY) and Sally Turner (Wheeling, WVa).

She was the devoted wife of William Aloise Wieler, beloved husband of 54 years who died in January 2010. She is survived by her son James Grant and Shelley Jane (Warren) Wieler, their children Grant Curtis, Jane Curran, Patricia Mae, and Scott Mathison of Medway MA, her daughter Nancy Curran and Daniel Matt Fishman, their children Matthew Nolan and Eleanor Curran of Pennington NJ, her son William Edward and Maureen Teresa (Holder) Wieler, their children William Aidan and Kathleen Rose Marie of Pocasset, MA, and her daughter Mary Kathleen Wieler and her husband John Smyrski, and their children John Mathison and Clara Delphine of Lebanon NH. She also leaves dear long-time friends and in-laws, Joanne and Charles Warren.

Jane was a graduate of Mount DeChantal Visitation Academy in Wheeling WVa. Jane was a graceful and loving mother who enjoyed and contributed to the arts in each community she lived in, and was a gifted singer and artist. She was an active member of the Society of Creative Arts in Newtown CT, the Newtown Players and later the Bedford MA arts community and the Community Players. She was a talented set designer and was well known for her watercolors and pencil drawings. She was also an active member of the Cape Cod Curling Club in Falmouth, MA. She recently moved to Southgate in Shrewsbury MA. She traveled extensively with her husband and many good friends; her pleasant and generous nature was a joy to all.

A memorial gathering and luncheon will be held at Southgate Residences at 30 Julio Drive, Shrewsbury, MA on August 11, 2010 at noon, with visiting at her apartment at Southgate from 4PM until 8PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Joseph Church on Village St. in Medway, MA on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 10 a.m. She will be interred along with her husband at the National Cemetery in Bourne after the funeral.
