James P. Madden
Derby, VT – James P. Madden, 69, died peacefully at his home in Derby Vermont with his family by his side on Thursday October 4, 2012.
He was born May 26, 1943 in St. Albans Vermont a son of James R. and Isabel (Fuller) Madden. After his father was killed in World War II, while James was a young child, his mother remarried and he was raised by his mother and step father, Donald Bovat. Jim graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1961 and attended Boston University for a time before entering the US Navy. He served in the Navy from 1965 until 1969 being discharged into the Navy Reserves as a Cryptologic Technician 3rd Class. After his service in the Navy, Jim returned to Boston University where he received a Bachelors Degree in Management in 1972.
He lived for many years in Hanover, MA where he raised his family and worked as manager at Bandag and later Oxford Tire. Before retiring he worked briefly at Columbia Motors as a delivery driver. In 2005 he moved to Derby, VT with his companion, Cindy Lewis, and has resided in Derby since.
Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of a good joke. He was an avid New England Patriots fan and also enjoyed fishing, golf and most of all time with family, especially cookouts. He was a past member of the Derby Lions Club.
He leaves a son, Jim Madden and his companion Jennifer Roy both of Boston; a daughter, Jenn Madden of Weymouth, MA; his companion, Cindy Lewis and her children Trevor Lewis and Erika Lewis all of Derby, VT as well as a large extended family, many friends and his pals Matches and Tibbles.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home, 903 Hartford Ave., White River Jct. VT from 12-2PM on Saturday October 20th. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 2PM with burial and military honors in the Hartford Cemetery.
