Belchertown , MA – James Francis Meehan, 78, died Tuesday April 23, 2019 at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct., VT.
He was born April 27, 1940 in Quincy , MA a son of John and Theresa (Mallet) Meehan. Jim grew up and graduated from high school in Quincy before serving in the US Navy as a submariner. After his honorable discharge he attended the University of Massachusetts where he earned a bachelors degree in Wildlife Biology. After completing his masters degree, Jim began his teaching career at Springfield Technical Community College , first in Biology and later in Computer Science until retiring in 2005.
He was married to Suzanne Rogers in 1983 and they made their home in Chicopee , Granby and most recently in Belchertown.
Jim took up playing the Bass in his forties and has enjoyed playing with several Dixie, Swing and Big Bands over the past thirty years. He was also an avid cyclist.
Jim was dearly loved by his friends and family, and leaves his wife Suzanne Meehan of Belchertown, MA; children Michael Meehan of Westminster, MA, Kara Meehan of Hampton, NH and Scott Lorange of Belchertown, MA; four grandchildren Alex, Shannon, Joel and Alexa; a brother David Meehan of Pittsfield, MA; and many nieces, cousins and friends throughout the country, from his home state of Massachusetts to the far coast of California. Jim was predeceased by a sister Patricia Cagle.
Jim also leaves the innumerable band mates with whom he had the pleasure playing over the years.
