WINDSOR, VT
James P. Larkin, 70, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Monday afternoon, April 25, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
He was born March 11, 1941 in Claremont, NH the son of John P. and Cecile (Belisle) Larkin. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1959 where he excelled in athletics. He attended the University of Vermont and Castleton State College.
He met Juanita Becker in 1982 and they were married in Windsor on May 30, 1998. He was employed as a superintendent at the former Cone Blanchard Machine Tool Company in Windsor until the plant closed. He later worked as a salesman for area machine tool companies. He most recently was employed at Sturm Ruger Inc. in Newport, NH until his medical retirement in 2001. Jim enjoyed wood carving, and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping and hiking. He especially enjoyed attending Windsor athletic events and was proud to have coached athletic events for many years. He also served as a scout for the Windsor football program. He greatly enjoyed photography.
He was a member of the Windsor American Legion Post #25 and a former member of the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665. He also served on the Windsor County Partners.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Larkin of Windsor, five sons, Sean F. Larkin of Windsor, Andrew J. Larkin of Windsor, Michael Larkin of Houston, TX, Kevin Larkin of Austin, TX and James "Jay" Larkin of Champaign, IL, one step daughter, Shelly Rhoades of Windsor, two brothers, Thomas Larkin of Vergennes, VT and Francis Larkin of Burlington, VT, one sister, Leanna Willard of Windsor, eight grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor on Saturday, April 30 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Paul N. Belhumeur will be the Celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Windsor Recreation Center. Committal services will be at a later date in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor.
