Obituary

James Roger Edson died peacefully on May 7, 2021 with his daughter Megan Edson at his side.

Jim, as he was called, was born in Windsor, VT in November 1946.  He was the second son of Roger Edson and Rosamund "Betty" Edson.   Jim grew up on Fitch Court in Windsor and graduated Windsor High School in 1964.   Many good times were spent at the family camp on Perkins Pond in Sunapee, NH.

Jim followed his father into work at the Cone Automatic Machine Company, Inc. After completing a 4000-hour apprenticeship, Jim began work at Cones as a manufacturing engineer.  He worked there for 32 years, staying until the day the factory closed its doors.  In the 1990s, Jim was a central part of the building of a Blanchard grinder to be used to cut steel for the American automobile manufacturers, a project that brought him great joy as a lifelong Ford lover.

Always being a hard worker and liking to keep busy, Jim spent the next years before retirement in a new role as home inspector for insurance companies.  He loved this work and felt lucky to get to view so many of the beautiful old homes in Vermont.

Jim took the opportunity to visit all the contiguous U.S. States.  He looked for great fishing spots in his travels and at home, knowing that a day spent fishing is a day well spent.  He always returned to what he considered the best place to live - Windsor -  where he was a lifelong resident.  He made his home at 18 Fairview Terrace for the last 42 years.

Jim loved the great outdoors and everyday considered himself lucky to live in the beauty of Vermont.   He passed his great love of fishing on to his daughter Megan and both his daughters inherited his love for camping.

Jim married Dora White in 1965.  Together they had two daughters:  Cassandra Edson of Montpelier, VT and Megan Edson of Erving, Mass.  Jim was extremely proud of his girls and considered his role as father the central work of his life. He never missed a school or other event for his girls or his grandchildren.  His support and advice were treasured by his kids and grandkids.

He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren:  Carra-Lyn Theodore, of Los Angeles, CA,  Ariel Pascoe of Winooski, VT and Micheal Edson of Chesterfield, N.H.   Jim is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Bruce and JoAnne Edson, Apalachin, NY, a niece and a nephew, and 2 grand nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Jim with a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont at SeniorSolutionsVt.org.

Please celebrate life as Jim would – do a little dance to show your happiness, cherish the natural world for its beauty and all it gives us, and tell your loved ones how much you care.

Calling hours will be held at Knight Funeral Home, Windsor on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 10 am to noon, after which a graveside ceremony will be held at Ascutney Cemetery.
