PLAINFIELD, NH
James H. Crary, Sr., 79, passed away Friday, July 2, at his home in Plainfield, NH.
He was born November 4, 1930 in Claremont, NH the son of Charles H. and Ernestine (Wheeler) Crary. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1949. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge in 1952 he attended Keene Technical College and was later employed as an aircraft mechanic in Keene. He married Beverly A. Greene on June 30, 1956 in Bernardston, MA. They moved to Windsor in 1957 and to Plainfield in 1975. He most recently was employed in the manufacturing engineering department at the former Cone Blanchard Machine Company in Windsor for thirty six years until his retirement in 1991.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Plainfield Rifle Club, the National Rifle Team, receiving numerous awards for trap shooting. He was also a member of the Grafton County Fish and Game Club in West Lebanon. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #25 and a member of the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665. Mrs. Crary passed away November 21, 1993.
He was also predeceased by one brother, Stanley O. Crary in 1983 and one grandson, Joel Crary in 2007.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna L. Crary of Laurel, MD, two sons, James H. Crary, Jr. of Canaan, NH and Thomas C. Crary of Columbia, SC, six grandchildren, James O. Crary of Claremont, NH, Kristin Crary, Keenan Crary, Kyell Crary, Glenna Longley and her husband Rex, Scott Barton and his wife Wendy, all of Canaan, one great granddaughter, Kyria Crary of Canaan and one great grandson, Hawkens Rex Thomas Barton of Canaan, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Thursday, July 8 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
At his request there will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
