Obituary

Hanover, NH – James D. Brackett, 90, died Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Sunapee Cove Nursing Home in Georges Mills, NH.

James was born May 14, 1935, in Waltham, MA, the youngest son of Nathaniel and Sarah (Conant) Brackett. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH, in 1954 and went on to study at Dartmouth College in Hanover, graduating in 1958. James joined the National Guard before attending the University of Pennsylvania Dental School in Philadelphia, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1965.

During summers, James worked as a camp counselor on Lake Winnipesaukee. He and a friend would often paddle into town by canoe, and during one of those trips in 1962, he met his future wife, Georgia Taggart, who was waitressing at a local restaurant. They were married on June 6, 1964, in Westport, CT. The couple lived for a time in Philadelphia, PA, and Worcester, MA, while James completed his schooling and internship. They eventually settled in Hanover, where he opened his dental practice in 1967 and continued serving the community until his retirement in 2014.

James was a member of Wellspring Worship Center, the International Academy of Orthodontics, the New Hampshire Dental Society, and Gideons International.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Nathaniel P. Brackett Jr., and a sister, Sarah Bryant. He is survived by his beloved wife, Georgia Brackett of Hanover; two daughters, Jennifer B. Guess of Hanover, NH, and Rebecca C. Price of Fayetteville, AR; a son, Sam Brackett of Tallahassee, FL; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Wellspring Worship Center in West Lebanon, NH. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com,
