Obituary

WINDSOR, VT
James B. Bennett, Sr., 78, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife Mary Jane, on Monday evening, September 27, at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor.
He was born May 8, 1932 in St. Johnsbury, VT the son of Benjamin and Florence (Rock) Bennett. He grew up in St. Johnsbury, Walden and Lebanon, NH before the family moved to Windsor in 1942. He graduated from Windsor High School in 1951. He married Mary Jane Raymond in 1954. Mr. Bennett spent his entire working life at the former Cone Automatic Machine Company in Windsor, rising to the position of Manufacturing Superintendent prior to his retirement in 1990.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman for his entire life and once held the New Hampshire state record for the largest Walleyed Pike. During his retirement he spent a great deal of time collecting, building and maintaining hunting and fishing equipment, mentoring his children, grandchildren and friends, and wandering the back roads with his wife in the search of the elusive brook trout. He was a tireless fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics. He lived a full and happy life and was a well-loved man of great humor and wisdom. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Koreen Bennett, two brothers, Paul Bennett and Leland Bennett, and three sisters, Anita Bennett, JoAnne Shattuck and Beverly Moquin.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jane of Windsor, two sons, James B. Bennett, Jr. of Windsor and John M. Bennett and his wife Susan of New Boston, NH, one daughter, Kristi Veverka and her husband Kevin of Claremont, NH, seven grandchildren, Lyndsey, Kelsey, Sarah, Alicia and Sam Bennett and Justin and Joshua Veverka, one great grandson, Aidan Veverka, two sisters, Maxine Hastings of Benson, AZ and Laverne Langdon of Springfield, VT, several nieces and nephews.
At his request there will be no formal funeral services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Ascutney Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility Activities Fund at 289 County Road, Windsor, VT 05089.
The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor assisted with the arrangements.
