Obituary

NORTH HARTLAND, VT
Jack C. Keir, Ph.D., 92, a resident of North Hartland and Bradenton, Florida, an energetic and innovative entrepreneur and professor, died August 30, 2010, at his daughter's home in Wilmington, Delaware.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Haurilick Keir of North Hartland, daughter Rosalind Freeman of Wilmington, DE, son John Keir of Plymouth Meeting, PA, daughter Henrietta Nye of Middletown, OH, stepdaughter Sherry Wood, stepson Steven Wood, seven grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Windsor High School, Middlebury College and Tufts University. During World War II, he was stationed in the Pacific and after the war served in Germany as part of the reconstruction effort. After leaving the Army, he taught in the business school at Kansas State College. He received his Ph.D. in Insurance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Keir became a Dean of the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA and later was a professor of insurance at Temple University. He was the founder and president of Keir Educational Resources, a publishing company for the financial services industry. Throughout his life he was an avid tennis player and enjoyed fishing. He was a major force and contributor to the construction of Blueberry Lake for the town of Warren, VT.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 7, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Windsor, with the Rev. Christina Brannock, Pastor, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 172 North Main Street, Barre, VT 05641.
The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor is entrusted with local arrangements.
