Obituary

Windsor, VT – Ivan F. Simonds, Jr., 68, beloved husband, devoted dad, fun-loving brother, cherished papa, and loyal friend died at his home on Friday, February 14, 2025. Ivan was born on July 22, 1956, in Enfield, CT to parents Ivan F. and Beverly (Sanders) Simonds. As a boy, his family moved to Windsor to be closer to his father's family. He loved the Windsor community and was a proud graduate of the high school graduating class of 1974. Just after high school, Ivan enlisted into the US Navy and on April 12, 1975, he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Dimick. The pair started their married lives in Florida where he was stationed, but due to a deployment for Ivan, a hurricane, and a newborn baby, Donna moved back up to Vermont to be with family and await Ivan's return after the completion of his military service. They raised their two daughters in Windsor in a house that roared with laughter and joy, creating many lasting and happy memories.

He was an avid sports fan, preferring to follow the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and Bruins from the comfort of his recliner where he could 'help them' remotely with his own special superstitions. He once wrote a long email to the Red Sox, pointing out the failures of the current management and offering his assistance to take over. Although he did have experience, since he successfully helped coach Christie's little league team, the Angels, to a championship, his offer was apparently declined.

Camping was a favorite tradition; in the early years there were family RV caravan weekends to various locations and later seasonal RV camping at Horseshoe Acres. He loved to cook, including while camping, so there were doughnuts in the mornings and frequently, his signature spaghetti sauce was on the menu, made carefully in batches from his own tomatoes.

After the death of Donna, he married Sue Eastman on July 7, 2012. They brought one another immense joy, enjoying so many of the same interests and sharing one another's sense of humor. Each welcomed the other's children as members of their own family, creating new and lasting loving memories.

Ivan is survived by his wife Sue Simonds of Windsor; two daughters Christine Slocum and husband Rob and Katie Simonds, all of Windsor; one sister Carolyn Holling of Windsor; two stepdaughters Amanda Silva and husband Wemerson of Baltimore, VT and Meredith Fox of Londonderry, NH; ten grandchildren who adored their papa, Russell, Robert, Gage, Alyssa, Carter, Amber, Vincent, Alice, Brooks, and Lorenzo; one great-grandson Holden; a loving and loved extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Ivan F. Simonds, Sr.; his mother Beverly Watson; his wife Donna Simonds; and four siblings Brian, Bruce, Beverly, and Rhonda.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Windsor American Legion from 1 until 4 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025, with full military honors rendered at 2 pm. A private burial will held this summer at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT. Memorial donations are appreciated to the Windsor Little League (please makes checks payable to Friends of the Windsor Rec Center and write Little League on the memo line).
