Wilder, VT- Irene M. Maheu, 96, died Monday, August 12, 2019 at Concord Hospital in Concord, NH.

Irene was born May 21, 1923 in Hartford, VT a daughter of Vincent and Josephine (Royer) Coutermarsh. She graduated from Hartford High School class of 1941. She went on to work in both the Hartford and Lebanon Woolen Mills. She was married to Herbert H Maheu, Sr. on May 11, 1947 at St. Anthony Chuch in White River Junction. They lived in West Lebanon for a time before making their home in Wilder. In 2013 Irene moved to Southern New Hampshire to live with her daughters and their family's.

Irene is a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and American Legion Post Auxiliary both in White River Junction.

She is predeceased by her husband Herbert; a son Richard Maheu Sr.; three brothers Ira Coutermarsh, Vincent Coutermarsh, Jr. and  Walter Coutermarsh, Sr.; two sisters Lucille Bellimer and Blanche Jarvis.

She is survived by a son Herbert Maheu, Jr of Whiteford, MD; two daughters JoAnn Kilar of Manchester and Ann McGahey of Epsom, NH; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, two sisters Anne Johnson of Hartford and Mary Blackmer of West Lebanon; and Many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, August 15, from 6-8pm at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Anthony Church Friday at 11am followed by interment in Mt Olivet Cemetery.
