Obituary

Irene E. Delmonte

Windsor, VT – Irene E. Delmonte, 92, died Tuesday February 23, 2016 at Lebanon Center Genesis Eldercare in Lebanon, NH.

She was born a daughter of Ernesto and Eleanora (Berta) Delmonte on January 8, 1924 in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, NY where she lived all of her life. Irene attended St. John's Hospital where she studied nursing and worked in the medical field until retiring.

Family was very important to Irene. She spent many years actively caring for her parents who lived in the next apartment, living in the same location for 70 years until her move to the Upper Valley. She was especially devoted to her nieces and nephews, whom she always called "the children I never had."

Animals were another big part of Irene's life. In addition to the several cats who always shared her home, she also made sure the neighborhood animals were fed and well taken care of. She spent many hours volunteering with the Humane Society to help increase spay and neutering of stray animals.

She was a member of and active at the HANAC Harmony JVL Innovative Senior Center in Astoria where she enjoyed spending time with other seniors.

Irene will be fondly remembered for her straightforward unfiltered personality. She always told you what she was thinking whether it be a compliment or a criticism. During her career, she received many letters of thanks from her patients, because they came first for her and she would do anything to help them receive the best care.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Peter Delmonte, Lena Stahl and Mary Peduzzi. She is survived by her nieces Luisa Coppinger (Richard Crandall) of Windsor, VT and Susan Stahl (Roger Beatty) of Grapevine, TX and nephews Alfred Peduzzi (Mary) of West Palm Beach, FL, Robert Peduzzi (Evelyn) of Bethpage, NY and Peter J. Delmonte (Catherine) of Cardiff by the Sea, CA, as well as several great nieces and nephews.

A committal service will be held in the Calvary Cemetery in Queens at a later date in the spring.
