Obituary

White River Jct., VT – Ian Ross Cate, 50, died suddenly at home in White River Jct. on Thursday March 1, 2018.

He was born July 21, 1967 in Hanover, NH a son of Gerald and Marga (Barthel) Cate. Ian enjoyed growing up in Sharon, VT and continued to feel a special bond with the town. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1985 where he met Kristy Patterson. They were married July 23, 1988 in Sharon, VT and have made a home and raised their two sons in White River Jct. since. Ian worked for a time at Britton Lumber in Taftsville before beginning his career in the mail department at Dartmouth Hitchcock working for nearly twenty years, a job he really enjoyed.

Ian was a music lover and collector of rock and roll memorabilia. He was also an avid reader and had a gift for retaining the information he read. Most of all Ian loved spending time with his family.

He leaves his wife, Kristy and sons Elijah and Jasper all of White River Jct.; his mother Marga Cate of Wilder, brother Alister Cate and his wife Marion of Lebanon, grandparents Richard and Lottie Gallagher of Lockport, NY; mother and father-in-law John and Terri Patterson and brother-in-law John Patterson Jr. all of White River Jct.; nieces and nephews Justin, Amanda and Zoe Cate and Brad Patterson as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ian was predeceased by his father Gerald in 2013.

Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Friday March 9th from 6-8PM. A celebration of life will be held later at a time and place to be announced.
