North Haverhill, NH – Howard F. Knight Jr., 78, died Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2020 at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH. He was born May 31, 1941 in Middletown, CT the son of Howard F. Knight Sr and Marion (Cook) Johnson. He grew up in the Thetford area.
In 1962 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam as an operating room assistant in a forward hospital. He was honorably discharged in 1974. Early in his military career while stationed in Texas, he met and married Minnie Davidson of Harlingen TX. They were wed on December 24, 1963. They lived in several locations in the US and overseas while he completed his military service. In 1979 they settled in Thetford, VT moving to Coventry, VT in 1989, divorcing in 1997. Minnie predeceased Howard in 2006. Howard moved back to Fairlee in 2012, to Vershire in 2016, and N. Haverhill since 2019.
Howard was a proud member of the VFW, DAV, and American Legion. He enjoyed researching family genealogy and native American history.
He was predeceased by both his parents and his sisters, Cora Mae Webre of St. Armat, LA and Ida J. Michaud of Hudson, NH.
Howard is survived two daughter Roberta Knight of Fairlee, VT, Sheila Blandin and husband Wayde Blandin of Vershire, VT. Two sons, Franklin Knight and wife, Terry Knight of Swainsboro GA, and Matthew Knight of Coventry VT, His brother Luther Johnson and wife Penny Johnson of Wilder VT, and step sister Lea Mitchell of Voluntown, CT.
A graveside service with Military honors will be held at a later date, at the Vermont Veterans' Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dementia Society of America.
