Windsor, VT- Howard M. Dickinson, Jr. 90, died at home in Windsor on Thursday, May 28, 2020 with his daughter and Bayada nurses at his bedside.
Howard was born January 5, 1930 in Plattsburg, NY to Howard and Winifred (Prouty) Dickinson. They moved to Brandon a few years later where Howard went to school.
He joined the United States Army, where he honorably served our nation during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1951, he married Alberta "Tilly" Denton, and they started a family in Brandon, Vermont.
Howard worked as a chef at several establishments over the years, Basin Harbor, The Woodstock Inn, Kedron Valley Inn, The Middlebury Inn, and most notably The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine and Delray Beach, Fla, where his daughter, son, friends, and several nieces and nephews worked also. Here he would serve 100's of guests for each meal, three times a day. He would hand write all the different menus.
During his later years, Howard had a home in Inverness, Florida where he would escape New England's harsh winters. He would return during the summer months, staying with family in Vermont and NY. He enjoyed fishing with his brother in law, Richard Welch, camping, horseshoes, and was very good at playing cribbage. He Loved the Red Sox and the NY Giants. Howard was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 25 in Windsor.
Howard was predeceased by his wife, Tilly, and his son, Douglas. He leaves behind his daughter, Deb and her husband Reggie Langhans of Windsor, and their children, Reggie III, Brandi Crimmin, Jace , (Michael ),Gabby and Eva. Daughter in law Kathleen Dickinson, Twin sister Hilda Welch of Poultney, a sister, Barbara McDowell of Shelburne, and a brother, Thomas of Florida. Several nieces and nephews.
