HARTLAND, VT
Hial C. Lobdell, 92, a longtime resident of Hartland, passed away Thursday morning, May 13 at the Stoughton House in Windsor.
He was born April 21, 1918 in Windsor the son of Orrin and Ruth (Colston) Lobdell. He received his schooling in Hartland and Windsor, graduating from Windsor High School in 1936. He married Evelyn Blodgett in Windsor on April 24, 1942. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1946 he returned to Vermont and was employed for the Vermont Concrete Pipe Company for ten years. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers in 1981.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post #48 in Hartland, a life member of the VFW in White River Jct., and a member of the DAV in Windsor. He was also a member of the Blue Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Windsor, the Vermont Consistory in Burlington, and the Mt. Sinai Temple #3 in Montpelier. He was a member of the Hartland Fish and Game Club and a longtime member of the Hartland Congregational Church in Hartland. His wife of sixty two years, Evelyn passed away on August 3, 2004.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Llewelyn Lobdell and John Lobdell, five sisters, Ruth Johnson, Dorothy Lobdell, Doris MacDonald, Marion White and Madeline Lobdell.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Hewes and her husband, Roy, of Hartland, one son, Scott Lobdell and his wife, Toni, of Castleton, VT, four grandchildren, Meg H. Walker of Union Hall, VA, Kelly F. Hewes of Hartford, VT, Scott Lobdell of Watervliet, NY and Heather Hodsden of Bridport, VT, five great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins including Lex Thomas of Charlestown, NH.
A memorial service of music and memories will be held Thursday, May 20 at 11:00 AM at the Hartland Congregational Church in Hartland with the Rev. Lucia Jackson, Pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society at PO Box 1460, Williston, VT 05495, American Legion Post #48 at PO Box 120, Hartland, VT 05048, or the Hospice and VNA of Vermont and New Hampshire at PO Box 976, White River Jct., VT 05001.
