Quechee, VT – Herbert Leslie Orr, 86, died Friday, November 14, 2025, at home in Quechee.
He was born January 18, 1939, in Groton, VT a son of Marshall and Marion (Page) Orr. Herb grew up in Groton where he graduated from high school before enlisting in the US Air Force. While serving in Germany with the air force, he met and fell in love with Anneliese Spagerer. She returned to the U.S. with him following his honorable discharge in 1963 and they were married in Groton in 1964. Shortly after, they moved to Quechee where they raised their family and have lived since. Upon moving to Quechee, Herb began his career at the New England Telephone Company where he worked until retiring as a foreman in the mid 1990's.
Herb loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren, relaxing in his recliner with a grandchild on his lap, ice fishing, countless John Deere tractor rides, attending many hockey games and breakfasts at Denny's with them. He also enjoyed working around home, raising turkeys, sugaring with his friends, and helping any neighbor that needed him for anything.
He was a member of the United Brethren Lodge #21 Free and Accepted Masons in White River Jct. and a past member of the Hartford Elks.
Herb leaves his wife of over sixty years, Anneliese, of Quechee; sons Henry Orr (Lorraine) of South Carolina and Fred Orr (Michelle) of Danville, VT; daughters, Cynthia Renaud (David) of Hinsdale, NH and Gail Orr-Slider (Scott) of Thetford, VT; grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Rachel, Gavin, and Caitlin; great-grandchildren, Everly, Jackson and Creed; brother, Ralph Orr of South Ryegate, VT and sisters, Barbara Crown and Alice Daniels both of Groton, VT as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald.
A visitation will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Saturday, November 22 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A committal service with military honors will be held at the Vermont Veteran's Cemetery at a date to be announced in the spring.
