Herbert H. Maheu Sr.
Wilder, VT – Herbert H. Maheu Sr., 88, died Monday November 15, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 4, 1922 in Cornwall, VT a son of Harold F. and Stella M. (Sears) Maheu. Herb grew up and attended school in Middlebury, VT. He was married to Irene Coutermarsh May 11, 1947 at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct.; they have lived in Wilder most of their married lives. Mr. Maheu worked as an auto mechanic first at Miller Auto before purchasing the Esso Station in White River Jct. which he later moved to Wilder and operated as Herb's Exxon. After his retirement he delivered parts for Maynard Auto in West Lebanon for over twenty years, retiring due to health problems when he was eighty five.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Church where he was a fourth degree member of the Michaud Council of Knight of Columbus. He was also a lifetime member of the Hartford Elks Lodge, and a member of the Good Samaritan Camping Club.
Mr. Maheu was predeceased by an infant daughter, a son Richard Maheu in 2006 and his brother Robert Maheu earlier this year.
He is survived by his wife of Wilder, VT, a son Herbert Maheu Jr. of Whiteford, MD; two daughters Jo-Ann Kilar of Center Barnstead, NH and Ann McGahey of Epsom, NH; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., Wednesday from 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10AM at St. Anthony's Church with burial following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
