Helen M. Yusko, 89, died Tuesday morning, July 30, 2019 at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH. She was born December 15, 1929 in Sharpsville, PA the daughter of George and Maria (Kimak) Vasilenko. Growing up during the depression and WWII to first generation immigrants from Czechoslovakia she was taught the value of hard work, family and faith in God. Helen was a 1947 graduate of Sharpsville High School. She married Edward J. Yusko at St. Ann's Church in Farrell, PA in 1952.
While Ed was in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict Helen was raising their first born son and working at the Sharon Store. Later they bought their first home in Sharon, PA where they had two daughters. She then moved to Hermitage, PA her home for the next 45 years.
She resumed her working career as a bookkeeper and sales associate for Knott's Interiors. Later in her life Helen worked at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage, PA. and she also sold Aflac insurance. Helen was a long time member of St Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage, PA.
Once retired Helen spent time between her homes in Hermitage, PA and Estero, FL. until permanently relocating to Florida in 2013. She was extremely busy with many civic organizations and held different offices with the Red Hat Society, her local Golf Association, Bowling Leagues, and Ladies Clubs. In Pennsylvania and Florida her days were filled with bocce, golf, cards, mahjong, fashion shows, and fun times with all of her friends and family. Her husband of 64 years died in 2017 and Helen moved to Vermont to live near her daughter Shelly.
In addition to her parents and husband Helen was predeceased by her brother Steve Vasilenko and sisters Anna Kerlek, and Irene Henry. She is survived by a son, Keith Yusko and his spouse Barbara, of Orange, CA, two daughters, April Taylor of Palm Desert, CA and Shelly Yusko and her spouse Sheila of Quechee, VT, three grandchildren, Ian and his spouse, Laura, Derek and Dana, four great grandchildren, David, Reese, Lucas, and Ezekiel, as well as nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 10AM Saturday, September 28, 2019 at St. Michael Byzantine Church in Hermitage, PA followed by a ceremony at America's Cemetery. Donations can be made to St. Michaels or to the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH.
