Helen B. Michalowitz, 97, a lifelong resident of Windsor, died Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Genesis Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield following a period of declining health.
She was born September 28, 1926, a daughter of Joseph M. Michalowitz and Natalie (Krysztofik) Michalowitz of Windsor. She grew up in Windsor, graduated from Windsor High School in 1944 and attended Boston University. She was employed by the State of New Hampshire and by Dartmouth College in the Health and Human Services Division, retiring in 1992.
Helen was a devout parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a volunteer at the Windsor Library and a volunteer with the Windsor Lions Club. She loved to talk politics and always remembered to vote.
Helen enjoyed reading, particularly mysteries, thrillers and books about politics, most recently Bob Woodward's best-seller, Rage. As her mobility decreased she would still take frequent walks in the Village area of Windsor, using her trusty walker to go to the Windsor Library to check out a book.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, her brother Joseph Michals, and her sister Celia Ferguson. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
