WINDSOR, VT

Helen C. Boyce, 97 a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away early Saturday morning, December  22 at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor.

She was born May 13, 1921 in Graniteville, VT the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Gennette) Chapman. She received her schooling at South Barre Elementary and graduated from Spaulding High School. She then attended Rhode Island School of Nursing where she studied Nursery Maid courses. She married Robert S. Boyce at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Barre on September 29, 1943. They moved to Windsor in 1943 where Mrs. Boyce was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Humpty Dumpty College Kindergarten, Fowle and Johnson, Prevo's Radio and Appliance, and at Valley Propane. She retired in 1986.

Helen was an active member of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor, serving as Communion Steward, President of the UMW, and taught Sunday school, was a member of several committees and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Buena Vista Club, serving as president and a member of the Covered Bridge Squares, square dance club.

Mrs. Boyce was a longtime proud member of the Ascutney Chapter #2, OES, serving as many different officers, including Worthy Matron several times. She was a member and Past president of Past Matrons and Past Patrons of the Chapter. She served the Grand Chapter as Grand Adah for Sister Vivian Corliss in 1966-67, appointed Grand Lecturer, then proceeding through the chairs to Worthy Grand Matron in 1980-81. She served on the Registration Committee of General Grand Chapter for the Triennium of 1992-94, on the Board of the Vermont Eastern Home for many years, serving as president for twenty years. She also served as Mother Advisor of the Windsor Assembly International Order of Rainbow for Girls for several years. She was fond of music, reading, cooking and feeding others, her Sunday dinners were always treasured by family and friends.

Mr. Boyce passed away in 2001. She was also predeceased by one son, Warren M. Boyce in 2013.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherrill L. Gould and her husband, Stanley of Windsor, two grandchildren, Jena L. Gould-Hopkins and her husband, Edward of Johnson, VT and Christopher J. Gould and his wife, Heather of Windsor, three great grandchildren Gavin I. Hopkins of Johnson, Ella Gould and Benjamin I. Gould, both of Windsor, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 29 beginning at 1:00 PM at the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor. A memorial service and Eastern Star service will begin at 2:00. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Committal services will be held in the spring in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
