Hazel Melendy, 82, died Tuesday Morning July 7, 2020 at Hanover Terrace Healthcare.
She was born May 25, 1938 in Stafford Springs, CT a daughter of William and Eunice (Hosford) Pickett. Hazel worked on her family's farm in Stamford, CT until her family moved to Groton, VT when she was a teenager. She married Thomas Melendy June 17, 1956 in Windsor where they made their home and raised their eight children together. After the children were grown the Melendy's settled in Perkinsville until Mr. Melendy's death in 2004 when Hazel moved to Springfield where she lived until entering the nursing home in 2016.
Hazel worked as a cook at Head Start in Windsor and later as a seamstress for Profile Skiwear in West Lebanon before working at Mack Molding in Cavendish until her retirement.
Hazel loved sewing and made many quilts and Raggedy Ann dolls for family and friends. She was also and excellent cook and enjoyed sharing what she made. All her neighbors knew when it was doughnut day and would stop by the house to get their treats.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; a daughter Agnes Hickox; sister Mary Hodgdon and brothers Bob and John Pickett.
She is survived by four sons, Thomas S. Melendy of Brownsville, VT, John A. Melendy of Bridgewater Corners, VT, Mark D. Melendy of South Royalton, VT and Tim C. Melendy of Perkinsville, VT; three daughters, Shirley A. Parry of Perkinsville, Linda J. Potwin of Roxbury, VT and Brenda L. Richardson of Perkinsville; Clinton Wooley of Mt. Holly, VT who is like a son to Hazel; 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; a brother Ralph Pickett of Hardwick, VT; sisters Betty Howard and Nancy Pickett both of Swanton and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery in Springfield, VT on Tuesday July 14 th at 2PM. Knight Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
