WINDSOR, VT
Hazel M. Gagne, 94, a resident of Windsor, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 11 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
She was born May 28, 1915 in Montpelier, Vermont the daughter of Owen and Eva (Kidder) Hastings. She received her schooling in Lisbon, New Hampshire where she graduated from Lisbon High School in 1934.
She married Melbourne Strew on July 2, 1936 in Peacham, Vermont.
She was employed at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Windsor, the former Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, Williams Laundry in Windsor and most recently at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct, until her retirement in 1974. Mr. Strew passed away on October 5, 1971.
She married George Gagne in Windsor on August 10, 1974. They resided in Worcester, Vermont before moving back to Windsor in 1992. Mr. Gagne passed away June 10, 2001.
Mrs. Gagne was a member of Friends of Council, the Rebecca Lodge, the Emblem Club, VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Post #25 Auxiliary in Windsor. She was also a Girl Scout leader for several years.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and tending to her many plants. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Phyllis Samoni and Leona Luttrel, and two brothers, Clifton Hastings and Owen Hastings.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Furman and her husband Richard of Windsor, and Judith Buckman and her husband Robert of Windsor, one son, William Strew and his wife Ricky of West Hartford, Vermont, one brother, Albert Hastings and his wife Maxine of Benson, Arizona, several nieces and nephews. Hazel was extremely proud of her nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17 at 2:00 PM in the Boltonville Cemetery in Newbury, Vermont with the Rev. Ken White, Pastor of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Alliance of VT and NH at 66 Benning Street, Suite 6, West Lebanon, NH 03784 or to the Hospice Program at Mt. Ascutney Hospital at 289 County Road, Windsor, VT 05089.
