Hayward Farnsworth, 95, died Thursday morning, April 27 at his son's home in Swanzey, NH. He was born May 28, 1921 the son of Henry V. and Grace (Goodell) Farnsworth.
Hayward grew up and attended school in Hartland, VT. As a young man he worked with his dad at the Jay Farm in Hartland. In March of 1940 he went to work at Cone Automatic Machine Co. in Windsor, VT. On April 9, 1944 Hayward married Myrle Marshall in Windsor VT. He served in the U S Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He returned to work at Cone Automatic Machine Co. until his retirement in 1983.Hayward and Myrle moved to Ascutney in 1967. After their retirement, they spent their summers in Vermont and winters in various parts of the country, most recently in Florida.
He was an accomplished machinist and enjoyed the challenge of repairing or rebuilding anything mechanical for himself, family, and friends. He also enjoyed working in both his vegetable and flower gardens.
Mrs.Farnsworth died November 27, 2007. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Wayne Farnsworth and Frederick Farnsworth, four sisters Una McLaughlin, Therma Willey, Shirley Davidson, and Phyllis Bowers.
Hayward is survived by his two daughters, Martha Ingalls and her husband, Andre of Ascutney, VT, Cheryl Reid and her husband, Bruce of Congress, AZ, two sons, Dana Farnsworth and his wife, Linda of West Swanzey, NH, Mark Farnsworth and his wife, Debra of Central, SC, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, May 12 at 4:30 PM in the Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney, VT. Rev. William Sheldon will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ascutney Volunteer Fire Department PO 91, Ascutney, VT 05030 or to the charity of one's choice.
