Harry W. Reed
Enfield, NH – Harry W. Reed, 97, died surrounded by family on Monday October 26, 2015 at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness.
He was born November 24, 1917 in New Lebanon, NY the son of William A. and Blanche (Knapp) Reed. Harry graduated from high school in New Lebanon and began his thirty seven year career at General Electric as a toolmaker. Harry served his country between 1945 and 1947 after being deployed to Japan with the US Army. Harry was married to Barbara Fogg November 29, 1953 in White River Jct., VT. They spent 32 years in NY raising their family in New Lebanon. He worked for a short time with Kinetic Artist George Rickey. They moved to Enfield where they enjoyed life on Crystal Lake. Together, Harry and Barbara operated a bed and breakfast from their home for 17 years.
Harry was a member of the historical societies in New Lebanon and Enfield, serving as president in both locations. He and Barbara were members of the Congregational Church in New Lebanon, NY and later in Lebanon, NH. They were both active with the Crystal Lake Association and the Lebanon Arts and Crafts Association as Harry loved woodworking. He also enjoyed sports and watching his favorite teams; the Boston Celtics, New England Patriots and New York Yankees. He was able to play tennis until he was 85! Most of all Harry loved being with his family and friends.
He was predeceased in 2012 by his wife Barbara of nearly sixty years as well as his twin sister Violet and older sister Bertha Cummings.
He leaves his children Jeffrey Reed and wife Sonja of Bradenton, FL, Gregory Reed and wife Linda of Ghent, NY; Christopher Reed of Enfield, NH; Thomas Reed and wife Ann of Southwick, MA; his daughter Grace Keniston and husband Mel of Londonderry, NH; six grandsons Nathan, Kyle and wife Clary, Andrew, Gregory and Harry Reed and Nicholas Keniston; a great grandson Kason Reed and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Lebanon Congregational Church in Lebanon, NH on Saturday November 28th at 12pm with a time of fellowship and refreshments to follow. A private committal will take place later at the Hartford Cemetery.
