Harold H. Robinson, 98, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Junction, VT.
He was born July 11, 1914 in Woodstock, VT, a son of Homer A. and Nellie A. (Carter) Robinson. He grew up in Woodstock and graduated from Woodstock High School class of 1932. When duty called Harold served his country during World War II in the Army where he was stationed in the South Pacific and he received a Purple Heart during his service. Harold was on the USS Coolidge when it hit a mine and was one of the last troops to leave the ship. Upon his return he was married to Frances Perkins, February 16, 1946 in Woodstock and they resided in Bridgewater. In 1970 they moved to Cornish, NH. He went to work for several years at the Bridgewater Woolen Company and later at Cone Automatic Machine Tool Company in Windsor, VT. Harold retired in 1979 after twenty eight years with the company.
Harold loved to spend time on the greens golfing, time on the lanes bowling or anything athletic. He loved to play cards and he was the Woodstock Historical Society's Cribbage Champion. He also was a skilled gardener with meticulously planned and executed plots. But most of all he was a loyal and loving family man whose kin came first.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Frances Robinson; a sister Hilda M. Robinson: brothers, Richard Robinson, Maurice H. Robinson, Clyde Robinson and Robert Robinson: and a step-brother Paul Robinson.
He is survived by two daughters Suzanne M. Geno, and Sandra A. Russ both of Bridgewater, VT; three grandchildren Robin Verge, Michael Geno and Donna Nott; five great-grandchildren Colin Verge, Parker Verge, Kaelee Geno, Mariah Luce and Madison Luce; two sisters, Ursula Peckham of Agwam, MA and Gladys Trembley of South Burlington, VT and two step-siblings Earl Robinson and Barbara Robinson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at11AM at the Bridgewater Congregational Church in Bridgewater. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock, VT at a later date.
