Harold "Hal" Pyke, Jr.
Brownsville, VT - Harold Fairchild Pyke, Jr., known as "Hal" to his friends and colleagues, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2022, at the age of 90 in St. Cloud, FL. Hal was a true New Englander, born in Cambridge, MA, on November 16, 1931, to Mr. & Mrs. Harold Pyke.
After serving in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant stationed in Germany in the early 1950s as a reconnaissance flight instructor, Hal pursued his education, graduating from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and receiving his Masters Degree at Boston University. He was a pioneer in Public Television Production at WGBH in Boston and later developed closed-circuit television systems for the medical industry throughout New England, providing rural care centers with access to large city hospitals for emergency care and training.
In the 1980s, Hal served as the Acting City Manager of Deland, FL, where he spearheaded the redevelopment of the airport business park, downtown, and historic areas, creating a friendly business atmosphere that was praised by the community.
After retiring to Brownsville with his wife Becky, They became active members of the Brownsville/Windsor community. Hal was known for his pleasant demeanor, kind and understanding nature, and always seeking a positive outcome in any situation. He was well respected by all who knew him.
Hal was preceded in death by his wife Becky in 2017 and is survived by his sons, Harold F. Pyke III, David R. Pyke, and his daughter Katy Brohlman, as well as four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Hal will be held on June 4th at 2 pm at the Sheddsville Cemetery in Brownsville, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Becky. All are welcome to attend. Alzheimer's Association
of Vermont.
Hal will be remembered fondly for his many contributions to his profession, his community, and his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on for years to come.
