Norwich, Vermont – Harland W. Hoisington, Jr., 94, of Norwich died on Thursday, August 12, 2021, in Hanover, NH. He passed peacefully and with family members at his side. He was born on October 23, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA to Harland W. Sr. and Helen (Wenzell) Hoisington. He graduated from Dartmouth College after an interruption from the US Army, which initially planned to send him to Japan and taught him Japanese, but instead sent him to Germany.
He spent many years in investment advising and became one of the first financial aid officers at Columbia University. Later, Barney became Director of Financial Aid at Dartmouth College. After he retired, he volunteered at the Upper Valley Haven in White River Junction and worked part time at the Norwich Transfer Station collecting refundable bottles to raise money for The Haven. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a caring and genuine friend to humanity who will be dearly missed.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, David and Richard Hoisington and M. Elaine Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Heather of Norwich, VT; five children, H. Steven Hoisington and wife Sharon of Ogden, Utah, Lynn Hansen and husband Mark of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, Paul Hoisington and wife Mary of Hanover, NH, Cynthia Hoisington and husband David Weingart of Barrington, NH, and Lauren Nuzzi and husband Paul of Barrington, NH; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
