Grantham, NH – Retired Captain St. Peter died on Monday, October 5, 2026. He was 83 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold L. and Dorothy H. St. Peter and his first wife of 31 years Marie Y. (Lemieux) St. Peter.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jean E. Liepold; two children, son Andrew B. St. Peter and his wife Annette and daughter Deana J. St. Peter; three grandsons Logan, Oliver, and Jake; two step-daughters, Billie Jean Moran and her husband Tom and Margery Instasi; a brother Paul B. St. Peter; other relatives and friends.
Bruce graduated from Hartford High School, class of 1961, and attended college at Wentworth Institute in Boston and the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY.
Bruce enlisted in the US Navy in 1965 and became an engineering aid assigned to the Mobile Construction Battalion Four (Seabees) and completed two tours of duty in Viet Nam. In 1967, as a Petty Officer 1st Class, he was selected for the Naval Enlisted Science and Engineering Program and attended the University of Nebraska (Lincoln), received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1970, and was commissioned as an ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps. He returned to the University of Nebraska in 1974 and earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Bruce was a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and a registered professional engineer. Of all his duty assignments, his favorite was Operations Officer, NMCB-71 during DF 74 completing the dome and South Pole Station and his most memorable, Commanding Officer of NMCB-133. He would constantly say, “Once a Seabee, always a Seabee.” Bruce retired in 1994 after 29 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the disabled American Veterans, and a member of the American Legion for 56 years.
In accordance with his wishes, a private interment will be held at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Seabee Museum and Memorial Park, 21 Lafrate Way, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
