White River Junction, VT-Gloria J. Karvonen died peacefully at Lebanon Center Genesis on Monday, February 4, 2019 in Lebanon, NH at the age of 74. Gloria is survived by her husband David Karvonen and children Stephen and Michael Karvonen. Gloria was born, Gloria Jean Mascintonio, on November 9, 1944 in Florence, CO. She grew up in Leadville, CO and graduated from Leadville High School in 1962. She married David Karvonen on March 2, 1965. After living briefly between Colorado and Vermont, the couple, in 1973, settled in Cavendish, VT. During Gloria's life she was an assembly worker for Whitney Blake, Bellows Falls, VT; dietary at Gil Odd Fellows Home, Ludlow, VT; teacher at 5C Daycare, Springfield, VT; public and private home health aide, Springfield, VT; and several other vocations. Gloria attended the Community College of Vermont during the 70s, 80s, and 90s for health/nutrition sciences, business, and early child development. She participated in community action projects in Ludlow and Cavendish Vermont during the mid 70s and early 80s.
Gloria was an accomplished accordion musician and often played for individuals and the community. Gloria loved acrylic paining, arts and crafts, writing, baking, nature walks, and listening to music. She retired in 2006 to focus on her health and family. Gloria was a courageous woman whom wasn't afraid to speak her mind about injustices. In the past few years she reconnected with her Catholic faith that played an important role in her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated, 11AM Saturday, February 9 at St. Anthony's Church in White River Junction. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to Gloria's family at www.knightfuneralhomes.com
