Gloria J. Furman, 79, a lifelong resident of Windsor, passed away Monday afternoon, January 15 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
She was born December 8, 1938 in Windsor the daughter of Melbourne and Hazel (Hastings) Strew. She received her schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1956. She married Richard E. Furman in Windsor on October 12, 1958.
Gloria was employed as a nurse's aid for seven years at Cedar Manor Nursing Home and later at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor. She then operated the Community Care Home in Windsor for five years, and also worked and taught for the Head Start Program for six years.
She also served on the Board of Directors of the Davis Home and was a member of the Jay Cee Jaynes in Windsor. She was fond of puzzles and flower gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of almost sixty years, Richard E. Furman of Windsor, three sons, Richard E. Furman, Jr. and his wife, Renee of Norfolk, VA, Scott W. Furman of Windsor, and Mark D. Furman and his wife, Allyson of Anchorage, AK, one sister, Judy Buckman and her husband, Robert of Windsor, one brother, William Strew and his wife, Ricki of Eustis, FL, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
At her request a public graveside service will be held in the spring in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
Her family wishes to acknowledge and thank her three "angel nieces", who spent many hours taking care of Gloria at her home and at the hospital.
