Gladys Elva Thody Black
Thetford Center, VT - Gladys Elva Thody Black, 87, died Friday, January 22, 2016 at Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder, VT.
She was born October 7, 1928 in Windthorst, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Wilbur Silas (Olie) Thody and Kathleen Stoetzel Thody. She came to Montana with her parents at age 1 month.
After working as a telephone operator as a young woman in Shelby, Montana, Gladys was married to Marvin William Black. She took a correspondence course in accounting in her 30's, becoming the accountant for A to Z Rental in Great Falls, MT and Denver, CO. Returning to Montana after her retirement, she enjoyed playing golf with her sisters Jean and Fay in Conrad, MT. Gladys was a master seamstress, sewing quilts and doing fine embroidery and knitting. She shared the Grand Prize with Jean for a quilt in the Montana State Fair.
Her brother John Thody of Great Falls, MT, her sons, Marvin Benjamin Black and Thomas Alan Black of Denver, and ex-husband Marvin predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo Black of Strafford, VT, three grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, sister Jean Baumann and husband Jim of Spokane, Washington, sister Fay Meyer of Hamilton, Montana and brother Jay Thody and wife Maxine of Lincoln, Nebraska.
The family expresses thanks for the loving care Gladys received at Riverbend Residential Care Home in Chelsea, VT, at Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder, VT, and Bayada Hospice.
