Obituary

Norwich, VT - Gladys Emogene (Nutbrown) Stanley, 78, died Tuesday January 19, 2010 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
She was born August 31, 1931 in Thetford Center, VT a daughter of Herald Edgar and Marie Elizabeth (Slack) Nutbrown.
She attended Thetford Academy, graduating in 1950.
She married Jesse M. Stanley, Sr. March 29, 1953 and have made their home in Norwich since 1959.
She was foremost a homemaker, loving wife, mother and nana.  Over the years she worked at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH, as a courier for Bankeast in Hanover as well as for First Twin State Bank in White River Jct., VT.  She also spent many years as office manager for her husband's building contractor business.
Gladys was in her element when surrounded by family and friends.  She enjoyed telling the stories of her life with her children and grandchildren and had an adventurous spirit.  She loved music and reading and her favorite hobbies were vegetable gardening and canning, knitting and crochet.
She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Beverly Readel and Ruth Nutting; a brother William Nutbrown, and two half brothers Harold "Sonny" Adams and Theodore "Teddy" Adams.
Survivors include her husband of Norwich, a sister Bernice M. Lemere of Emporia, VA; a daughter Stephanie Raymond and her husband Philip of Lebanon, NH; three sons: Jesse M. Stanley, Jr. and his wife Sharlene of White River Jct., Dean Stanley and his wife Doralie of East Thetford, VT and David Stanley and his wife Sonya of Bethel, VT; one granddaughter Angie Leduc and her husband Kevin of Lebanon, NH; six grandsons: Christopher Raymond of Concord, NH, Thomas Stanley of Bethel, VT, Edward Stanley and his wife Sarah of Flagstaff, AZ, Andrew Stanley of Chicopee, MA, Zachary Stanley of Norwich and Noah Stanley of Bethel, VT; four great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3PM at the Thetford Baptist Church in East Thetford, VT with the Rev. John Hartley officiating.  Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., assisted with arrangements.
