Obituary

Gladys M. Goff died peacefully on May 9, 2011 at The Valley Terrace Assisted Living Community in White River Junction, VT.

She was born March 23, 1918 in New Brunswick, Canada. She moved to Lewiston, ME as a child where she grew up and graduated from Lewiston High School. It was there that she met and married Francis J. Goff in 1945. They moved to White River Junction in 1950.

Gladys worked in the Hartford school district for many years where she especially enjoyed her daily interaction with the students. She was a member of St Anthony Catholic Church, serving as a lecturer and performing volunteer work. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, a volunteer at the Haven for many years and volunteered at the Red Cross blood bank.

Gladys had many wonderful attributes. She loved her family above all else and was happiest when they were together. She had a wide circle of friends whose company she enjoyed on a daily basis. She also loved to travel and together with her good friend Tessie Baribeau, embarked on adventures that took her all over the world. Gladys was an avid reader, be it novels, news magazines or The Valley News. She never missed a news program and was always informed on current events. She had a wonderful wit and sense of humor, which along with her famous chocolate chips and delicious pies were appreciated by all. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers and staff of Valley Terrace who not only cared for Gladys but created an environment of warmth and comfort that made it her true home for the past two years. We also want to thank Bayada Hospice, especially Melanie Whitaker, for taking such good care of our mother in her final days.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband Francis, in 1983. She is survived by her daughter Margaret Roy and her husband Marc of South Burlington, VT, two sons, John and his wife Kathy Goff of BelAir, MD, and David Goff of Dover, NH. She is also survived by grandchildren, Christopher and Katy Roy, Sarah and Joe Biedenkapp, Stephanie Roy and her fiancé Josh Hahn, Jennifer Goff, Mathew Goff, Shannon Goff and Conner Goff, two great-grandchildren, Miles Biedenkapp and Maxwell Roy. She is also survived by a sister, Lois and husband Ed Holder of Calgary, Alberta.
