Plainfield, NH, - Gertrude R. West, 87, died Saturday night, March 7, 2015 at the Sullivan County Health Care in Unity, NH. She was born July 24, 1927 in Weare, NH the daughter of Leon A. and Julia (Locke) Reade.

She graduated from Weare High School in 1945 and then later from the Fay Secretarial School in Boston, MA in 1947. Gertrude started her career as a Medical Records Librarian Assistant at the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Boston. She was married to George W. West 4th on September 3, 1950. They made their home in Pennsylvania where she went to work as a medical secretary/receptionist for the Medical and Surgical physicians at the Medical Tower in Philadelphia, PA. In 1966 through 1968 she worked as an interviewer for the "Childhood Poisoning Survey" at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical School in Hanover, NH. In the late 1960's, she worked for Baker & Page Law Firm in Lebanon, NH before she started her long tenure at Hilda B. Russell Realty Inc in Windsor, VT where she worked both as a secretary, real estate broker for New Hampshire, and real estate salesman in Vermont. Along with these tasks Gertrude also served as part time secretary, Public Relations Director for Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, VT, Community Relations Director of the Springfield Hospital in Springfield, VT as well as Director of Public Relations at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, NH.

Gertrude was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Windsor, VT and served her home town community, reading the meters and doing the billing for the Plainfield Village Water District.

She loved to travel with her husband and family. Gertrude loved to be outdoors whether it was sewing, berrying, collecting sea shells at the beach or spending countless hours in her flower or vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed stamp collecting and cooking.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64, George W. West 4th of Plainfield, NH, three daughters, Diane W. Rogers and her husband Richard of Plainfield, NH, Evelyn Brown and her husband Robert of Chelsea, VT, Julianne West of Windsor, VT, a son, George West 5th and his wife Linda of Plainfield, NH, Six grandchildren, Justin Rogers, Travis Brown, Ian Rogers, Tyler Brown, Leon Rogers and Quentin Rogers also four great grandchildren, Brian, Carter, Sophia, Hunter Rogers, two brothers, John H. Reade of North Weare, NH and Albert L Reade of North Weare, NH along with many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Sunday, March 15th at 3PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Windsor, VT. Burial will be held later in the springtime in the Plain Cemetery in Plainfield, NH.
