Gertrude A. Hodgeman, 87, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Sun City Center Hospice House in Ruskin , FL.
She was born November 16, 1925 in Pawtucket , RI the daughter of Gilbert H and Agnes (Lang) Gendron. Gertrude graduated from East Providence High School in East Providence , RI and went on to attend the Zion Bible Institute were she formed a relationship with Martin P. Hodgeman. They were married upon their graduation on July 15, 1950. They moved to Wethersfield , VT where they were Pastors at the East Congregational Church. They served in the ministry for several years throughout New England and New York . They settled in Hopewell , NY were she went to work as an office manager at the local lumber yards. She later shared her talents and interests when she opened the Needles and Pins Quilt Shop in Hopewell . They retired and moved to Brownsville , VT where they were active at the Trinity Evangelical Church in Windsor . In 2000 they moved to Sun City Center , FL where they have lived since.
Gertrude is survived by her loving husband Martin P. Hodgeman of Sun City Center ; four daughters, Cynthia Hodgeman of Brewster , NY , Kathryn Trudell of Pine Plains , NY , Pam Medla of Brewster, and Arlene Shaw Southington, CT; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a beloved niece.
A funeral service will be held at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor , VT Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Dave Jones, Pastor, officiating . Burial will be held in the Brownsville Cemetery in West Windsor at a later date. Knight Funeral Home in Windsor has been entrusted with arrangements.
