Obituary

Hartford , VT - Gerald David McDerment, 77, died Tuesday July 2, 2019 at the Jack Byrne Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in Lebanon , NH .

He was born November 21, 1941 in Beaumont , WV a son of Cleon S. and Kathleen (Thompson) McDerment.  Dave grew up in West Virginia and Ohio before enlisting in the US Air Force during his senior year of high school.  He spent most of his enlistment at McGuire A. F. Base where he met his future wife Margaret Harlow.  Marrying  in July of 1964 they later returned  to Vermont living in Hartford Village before settling in their current spot for over forty years while raising their family.

Dave loved spending time outside enjoying nature including hunting and fishing in his younger years and more recently feeding the birds, squirrels and chipmunks directly from his hands.  He also enjoyed puttering around the yard and was particularly good at finding solutions to fix problems he encountered.  He was a past member of the Hartford Rod and Gun Club and a longtime member of the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ.  Over the years he made many wooden toys and other things for his grand kids, the church and PTA Christmas sales.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Hartford , VT ; sons Brian McDerment of Grass Lake , MI , and David A. McDerment and his wife Sarah of Quechee , VT ; grandsons Steven and Ryan; a brother Mickey McDerment of OH and a sister Brenda Cherie McDerment of MS.

Dave's family deeply appreciates the all the care and comforting concern from the EMTs, ER staff at DHMC  plus the staff and the volunteers at the Byrne Center.

A private committal will be held in the Hartford Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
