Genevieve K. Potter

White River Jct., VT – Genevieve K. Potter, 91, died Wednesday July 8, 2014 at Genesis Eldercare Lebanon Center in Lebanon, NH.

She was born August 27, 1922 in Montpelier, VT a daughter of Donald and Eleanora (Currier) Freeman. Genevieve grew up in Plainfield, VT where she graduated from high school in 1941. She was married to Kenneth Potter June 28, 1942 at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Woodstock, VT. They made their home in Woodstock for many years later moving to Hartford Village and most recently living in White River Jct. She worked at the Hartford Woolen Mill, Hillside Manor Nursing Home, the Hartford Mini Mart and the later at the Hartford Library before retiring.

Mrs. Potter volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct. for many years, serving for over 3000 hours. She was a former member of the Hartford Women's Club and the Ora E. Paul American Legion Auxiliary in Woodstock.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking and especially enjoyed attending her sons Men's League Softball games and tournaments where she was affectionately known by everyone as "Ma Potter". She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who was always proud of her family. Genevieve never wanted to bother others by asking for favors but was always the first to lend a helping hand. For her many good deeds, she was named Hartford Citizen of the Year in 1997.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Potter; a son, Gary K. Potter, her granddaughter Lisa Jo Potter McGaw, her sister Katherine Freeman and two brothers William Freeman and Wilbur Freeman.

She is survived by six children Bryan H. Potter of Tampa, FL, Neil W. Potter and his wife Jane of Hartford, Corinne H. Cuthbertson and her husband Earl of Canaan, NH, Carmen K. Gentry and her husband Jack of Murfreesboro, TN, Jay L. Potter and his wife Denise of Pomfret, VT and Brady F. Potter of White River Jct.; 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Sunday July 13th from 3-6PM. A funeral service will be held at the North Pomfret Church at 11AM on Monday July 14th. Burial will follow in the Hewittville Cemetery in Pomfret.
