Obituary

Fulbert W. (Phil) Demers

White River Jct., VT – Fulbert W. (Phil) Demers 87, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., VT.
Born a twin son to Bernadette (Germain) and Joseph Fulbert Demers on March 29, 1923, Phil grew up in Wilder, VT where he worked at his father's saw mill. After graduating from Hartford High School in 1941, he joined the US Air Force and as a veteran of WWII, served in Africa and Naples, Italy. After the war he worked for his twin brother, Fred at the Cement Block Co. in West Lebanon and married Lucille Bomhower of Lebanon in August 1949; they settled in White River Junction. He worked as a carpenter at Dulac's Building Supply for 25 years, and at Johnson's Home Center for 22 years.
A real master of his trade, he could build anything ever made with his hands. Over the years he helped many people build homes and could often be found in the cellar working on countless other projects. After retiring he volunteered at the VA hospital for 10 years, helping patients to build small projects.
Many will remember him driving his distinctive station wagon. We will remember him with a hammer in hand and pencil behind his ear, whistling a tune and kidding people. He always appreciated a good conversation about anything, Suduko puzzles and especially enjoyed being with his family. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish and is predeceased by his twin brother Frederick Demers.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lucille, his son Bill Demers and his wife Kathie of Lebanon, daughter Marie Demers Alvin of White River Jct., VT and five grandchildren: Beth and Nicole Demers of Lebanon and Jennelle, Joseph and Jonathan Alvin of White River Jct., VT and son-in-law Joe Alvin. Also his sister-in-law Rita Demers and 5 nephews and cousins.
Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours or memorial service. Because of his passion for reuse, building, and helping others, memorial contributions can be made to the Cover Home Repair Program, 158 South Main Street in White River Junction VT. This organization helps build community through completing home repair projects for those in need.
Thank you to all the people who cared for him over the past 10 weeks and those who sent cards. Extra special thanks to those of you who took the time to visit Phil before and during his illness, he truly enjoyed that time.
