Fredrick Verde Farnsworth, 85, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.
He was born February 2, 1928 in Waitsfield, VT to Grace (Goodell) and Henry Farnsworth. Fred was raised in the village of Jenneville in Hartland VT. Fred worked various jobs over the years but was best known as a mechanic and gas station operator. He worked at local machine shops in his later years and retired from Bryant's in 1990. Fred was married to Laura McAllister on February 7, 1946 in Richford, VT. They joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966. They were very active in the church, completing two missions in New Mexico and Saco, Maine. They still have many friends in those areas and around the United States. Fred served as a Bishop as well as a Patriarch in the church for several years.
Fred was known for the love of his family and friends, his ready smile and sense of humor. He was extremely devoted to his wife Laura, who resides at the Skilled Nursing Facility of Mount Ascutney Hospital.
He is predeceased by a son Gary; three sisters, Una, Therma, and Shirley; and a brother Wayne.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laura; children, Donna Clay and her husband Richard, Daryl and his wife Annette, Brent and his wife Alanna, Ross and his wife Cora, and daughter-in-law Sharon Farnsworth; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Bowers; a brother Hayward Farnsworth and a life long friend Roger Crosby.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 9 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ascutney, VT from 5-8PM. Funeral services will be held at the church Wednesday at 11AM. Burial and dedication of the grave will follow in the Ascutneyville Cemetery.
