Obituary

White River Junction, VT- Freda Howe Aldrich, 89, died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at her daughter's home in Brattleboro, VT.She was born June 29, 1923 in Tunbridge, VT a daughter of Earl F. and Lura A. (Dean) Howe. She grew up in Tunbridge and graduated from South Royalton High School. Freda was married to Harold "Gill" Aldrich June 29, 1941 in Tunbridge. They built a home in Springfield, VT where Gill worked for J&L Machine tool.
They shared many great years together until his battle with tuberculosis and Gill was committed to the Pittsfield Sanatorium for a time. Upon his return they were blessed with a daughter Mary Margaret in 1962. Freda and Gill celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at their home with their family and friends. Shortly there after Gill died of cancer, and Freda moved to Wilder to be closer to her sister Elizabeth "Tish". She worked around the Upper Valley as a cook for several establishments until her retirement. Freda did alterations and tailoring on the side to help ends meet over the years. Freda was a member of the Valley Bible Church in White River Junction and a member of the Hartford Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed Walking, sewing, but she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren most of all.She is predeceased by her husband Harold "Gill" Aldrich and two sisters Eleanor Jones and Elizabeth "Tish" Spaulding. Freda is survived by her daughter Mary Castro of Brattleboro; three grandchildren Nicholas, Mitchell, Quentin; two sisters Rebecca Martin of Williamstown, VT and Sylvia Clark of GA. Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction, Friday, December 7, 2012 from 6-8PM.
