Franklin Edward Crowe
Norwich, VT – Franklin Edward "Frank" Crowe, 83, died Friday February 10th at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Frank was born May 31, 1928, a son of Frank and Edith (Titus) Crowe and grew up in Ryegate, VT, and remained proud of his Vermont heritage. His family moved to West Lebanon and he graduated from the West Lebanon High School Class of 1946, where he was a three sport athlete and a member of the chorus. On August 15, 1948, Frank married Gloria Mae Grant, his high school sweetheart and the center of his world for over sixty years. They lived in homes that they built themselves in West Lebanon until 1976 when they moved to Norwich, where they have lived since.
He was too young for service in World War II, so he contributed his efforts by shoveling coal into troop trains during the evening hours after sports practice and homework. He began working part time retreading tires at Interstate Tire, then near the corner of Bridge and Main Street in West Lebanon, while still in high school. He started working full time at Interstate in 1950 after they had moved to White River Jct. and was later given the opportunity to purchase the company from Nelson Enterprises of New Jersey. Upon purchasing the company he designed and built the current facility on Bridge Street in West Lebanon and moved the successful business to its present location.
Outside of time with his family, Frank loved fishing, hunting, especially with his dogs, local history and working on projects around the house.
He was a life member of the Hartford Elks B.P.O.Elks #1541.
He is predeceased by his two brothers Donald and George "Stuart" Crowe.
Survivors include his loving wife Gloria; daughters Karen Crowe of Dalton, NH, and Valerie Ann Phelps of Fairlee, VT; sons, Glenn Michael Crowe of West Lebanon, and Daniel Franklin Crowe of Hartford, VT; three grandchildren: Sean Pelletier, Mia Kathryn Crowe and Matthew Barker, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Thursday February 16th at 11AM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of VT & NH, PO Box 976, White River Jct., VT 05001.
