Frank E. Kenison
White River Jct., VT – Frank E. Kenison, 86, died Tuesday evening, May 6, 2014 at home with his family by his side.
Frank was born June 16, 1927 in North Conway, NH a son of Frederick Damon and Sarah Ellen (Kennedy) Kenison. He spent much of his youth moving around, while his father made a career in the military. He graduated from Kennett High School in North Conway, NH. After high school, Frank served aboard a US Navy destroyer during World War II. He returned to New England where he graduated from Springfield College and then went on to earn his Master's Degree in Education at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Frank taught and coached at Brattleboro Union High School where he began his long and distinguished career as a high school administrator and served as assistant principal at BUHS for 16 years. While in Brattleboro he also worked at the Vernon Hydro Electric Plant during his summer breaks.
In 1972 Frank moved with his family to White River Junction where he served as principal at Hartford High School retiring in 1989. While making his home in White River Jct., he enjoyed serving his community. He was actively involved in the White River Rotary Club, the Vermont Principals Association, served on the boards of the Windsor-Orange County Credit Union and the Bugbee Senior Center. Always working for the benefit of others, he served for years as a member of the Vermont Reparative Probation Program.
Making friends and family his priority, Frank enjoyed life to the fullest. He spent his retirement travelling, attending sporting events, recreating with his golfing crew, fishing and relaxing at his vacation home in Island Pond, VT.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ann (Pearce) Kenison after 50 years of marriage, and his second wife Janet (McGowan) Kenison as well as his brother Charles A. Kenison.
He is survived by his children Carol Snow and her husband John of Charlotte, VT, James Kenison and his wife Nancy of Woodstock, VT, Ruthellen Greene and her husband Joseph of Barre, VT, Sarah Lemieux and her husband John of White River Jct., VT and Heidi Graham and her husband Nathan of North Yarmouth, ME; two stepsons Geoffrey Perkins of Housatonic, MA and Christopher Perkins of Sheffield, MA; 18 grandchildren, a great-grandchild on the way; a brother Damon F. Kenison and his wife Judy of Boscowen, NH as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT Thursday May 15th from 6-8PM. A memorial service will be held at the Charles Wilder Center in Wilder, VT at 11AM on Friday May 16th.
