Thetford Center, VT – Francis S. Greenwood, 90, formerly of Shelburne, NH, died Sunday March 30
th
at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct., VT.
He was born January 29, 1924 a son of William H. and Alice (Cassidy) Greenwood in New Bedford, MA where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from high school, Francis served in the US Air Force during World War II. Following his military service, he received degrees from the Vesper George School of Art in Boston and the Swain School of Design in New Bedford. He then began his career as a commercial artist, working in Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Delaware, Chicago and Florida, where he spent several years working at Tupperware. In his retirement Francis opened a gallery in Shelburne, NH where he spent over thirty years with Doris Gorham, until her death in 2008. He moved to Thetford Center in 2012 where he has enjoyed the companionship of Jean Thurston.
He is also survived by his close friends Paula and Ken Simonoko of Shelburne, NH; two sons Kenneth Greenwood of Clayton, DE and William Greenwood of Amherst, NH; a daughter Jennifer Henry of Bear, DE.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday April 16th from 6-8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction. A funeral service will be held later in the spring at the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Chapel, in Randolph Center, VT.
