Francis E. Duling, Jr., 60, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 14, 2025, in Windsor.
He was born a son of Francis E. Duling, Sr. and Donna (Hood) Duling on February 17, 1965. Fran graduated from Windsor High School Class of 1983 and was a proud 1989 graduate of Lyndon State College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He fell in love with the natural beauty of the Northeast Kingdom and remained in Lyndonville for much of his life including a career as warehouse manager for Lyndonville Office Equipment. He returned to Windsor to care for his mother and has lived here for the past 15 years.
Fran loved his time at Lyndon State with his roommates Bob Corey, Jim Cleverly, Eric Berry and Gary Poll. He often reminisced about his legendary spring break trip with Jon Smyrl and Bennet McFaun. He was famously part of the "Memorial Day Massacre" at EB's house, when he tried (and nearly succeeded, he claimed) to take down Tim Nolan. Although the attempt ended with a few broken ribs, it remains a cherished memory for everyone who was there—even Frannie, who laughed it off with grace. Frannie made his mark in Lyndonville and was truly loved by the community he became a part of and loved returning to Lyndonville to help out at the Caledonia County Fair.
He was fortunate to be surrounded by many wonderful friends and each one held a special place in his heart. Fran remained close to his friends from Lyndonville including his college friends and many of his coworkers from UPS and Lyndonville Office Equipment, where perhaps he and Jeremy got into a little mischief from time to time. Fran built lasting relationships with too many to name, including Kelly Bean, Eric Berry, Bob Corey, Gary Poll, John Sanderson, Seth Brown, Dana Lefaivre, Joe Layn, Shawn McCaffrey, Jeff Mosher, Bryan Pal, Rick Wheeler, Jim and Allison Corrette, Shane Drinkwater, Tammy Hastings, Margery Harvey, Elisabeth Hubbard, Francis Newland, Justin Perkins, Shirl Sizen, Dana Wilkins and the entire O'Rourke family.
Frannie shared a deep bond with the Berry family—Eric, Meridith, Jade, and Cam—frequently attending the kids' birthday parties and spending countless hours on the hill. He was a beloved fixture at the Berry hunting camp where he spent countless memorable days and once proudly harvested a rare piebald deer.
Fran was very personable and loved talking with people. He enjoyed debating a variety of topics but was respectful of other people's choices. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and most of all loved dogs. In recent years Fran could often be found at the Windsor Dog Park or the Cornish Boat Landing with his beloved dog Sage.
He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother Chad, a brother Jeffrey, and a sister Theresa Duling-Herb. He leaves his nieces Jessica and Nicole Duling, sister-in-law, Patti Duling and several cousins and extended family including the Duling and Moore families.
May he rest peacefully with his family.
A visitation will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, Thursday, July 31st from 5:30-7:30PM. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 2nd at 11AM in the St. Francis Cemetery in Windsor.
