Hartland, VT- Francis "Frank" Ashline, 74, died suddenly in the early morning of Friday, August 15, 2025, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Frank was born in the kitchen of the family home to parents Adelorde and Ruth (Murphy) Ashline. He lived his whole life in Hartland, and he never had the desire to live anywhere else as long as he could have his family surrounding him. Parents and siblings were as close as any family could be throughout their lives. He attended school in Hartland, and he enjoyed telling stories of that time: cutting the school lawn and being robbed of his cigarettes by the teacher. When he grew into adulthood, he built a house just down the road from where he grew up and it was there that he and Cindy (Decato) Ashline shared more than fifty years of marriage.
He started his career in construction, then framing houses, but through the years went into operating heavy equipment, a job that felt more like playing with big toys than work. In all avenues, he met and worked alongside great people, creating lifelong friendships, and many of them became like family to Frank.
He was funny, stubborn, and kept everyone laughing (and wondering) with unpredictable commentary each day. He knew every back road in Hartland and always said he would be billionaire if he made $25 for each time he went around the hill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, cows, potato gardens, traveling to the western United States, going to snocross races, listening to old country music, singing along, rhyming, riding his four-wheeler, and smoking cigarettes with coffee. But more than anything, Frank cherished sharing his life and passions with the people he loved most.
Frank is survived by his wife, Cindy, his son, Nicholas and his wife Amy, along with their children, Alissah and Adam; his daughter, Heather and her spouse and two children; sisters Betty Beland and Jean Ashline; many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He thought of so many of these extended relatives and family friends as bonus grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joyce Sterns, Rachel Lynds, Lawrence Ashline, and George Ashline.
A celebration of Frank's life will be held from 4-7pm on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Carriage Lane in Hartland, VT. Friends and family are invited to share stories, memories, and laughter as we honor a life well-lived.
