White River Junction, VT – Frances M. Holt, 79, died on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Lebanon, NH. She was born on May 22, 1946, in Concord, NH, to Harold and Dorothy (Edgerly) Holt.
Fran graduated from Laconia High School and later from Berkshire Christian College. She enlisted in the US Army and served for three years as an LNA (Licensed Nursing Assistant) at Brooks Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX where veterans from the Vietnam war would go for healing and rehabilitation. Fueled by her experiences at Fort Sam Houston and the GI Bill, she would pursue and obtain her second bachelor’s degree, this time in nursing, from Aurora University in Aurora, IL.
She moved to the Upper Valley to work at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in the late 1980s, but found her place at Kendal at Hanover, where she retired in 2016. Fran enjoyed reading, the company of animals, visiting historical locations, and visiting her family when she could. She loved Jesus and being with her church family at Crosspoint Church Assembly of God in Lebanon, NH where she faithfully served for over 30 years. She was a faithful volunteer at the Pregnancy Center of the Upper Valley and was a strong advocate for life. Fran's life, especially her childhood, was not always easy and there was trauma, but she persevered in life through faith, true grit, and fierce independence and determination. She was full of love and quirky humor. Miss Fran was "one of a kind" and will be greatly missed.
Frances is survived by friends, extended family members, and her church family. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her four siblings, Mark Dutton, Sr., Maeve Niles, Katie Mitchell, and Helen Williams.
A celebration of Frances’ life will be held at Crosspoint Church Assembly of God in Lebanon, NH, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2026. A committal service will be held at the Smith Meeting House Cemetery in Gilmanton, NH, 2:00 PM the same day. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to the Pregnancy Center of the Upper Valley, 1 Main Street, W. Lebanon, NH 03784.
