Floyd Collins
Thetford Center, VT – Floyd Collins, 86, died Saturday February 6th surrounded by his family at Hanover Terrace Health Care in Hanover, NH.
He was born March 9, 1923 in Durhamville, NY a son of Clifford and Gertrude Collins. After graduating from high school in Verona, NY he served in the US Army during World War II. He returned from his service in the military and spent the next forty years working for Lane Construction retiring as foreman. While building Interstate 91 in Hartland he met Shirley Gardner, they were later married in White River Jct. on October 8, 1965. They spent most of the rest of their lives in the Upper Valley recently in Thetford Center. Mrs. Collins died November 16, 2008.
When he wasn't working Floyd enjoyed spending time on home improvement projects and more recently enjoyed bird watching and painting by numbers.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, American Legion Post 26 in White River Jct. and Hartford Lodge 1541 B.P.O.Elks.
He is also predeceased by a sister Gertrude Gilford and three brothers Clifford, Alfred and Robert Collins.
He is survived by two daughters Dorcy Isenor of Hartland, VT and Susan Follensbee of Thetford Center, VT; three sons Kenneth Newton of Bethlehem, NH, Steven Collins of Lebanon, NH and Byron Collins of Warren, MI, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother Leon Collins of Durhamville, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT Tuesday from 11AM - 1PM. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1PM. Committal services will be held Wednesday at 1PM in the West Lebanon Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed in an online guest book at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.
